How to keep birds and squirrels out of critical areas of a roof


Birds and squirrels are fastidious and aggressive, working to get into your rooftop. Some of the most common entry points are unmanaged chimney spark arrestors, loose or gapping fascia or rake boards, and areas of transitions between higher and lower rooftops.

The best way to keep rodents out is to seal and tighten gapping in metal and wood trim details. The most common areas for deterioration which allows gapping at the fascias. cornices, rake boards, and soffits. The rowhome at the left needs repair. You can see specific aesthetic corbels, missing at the eave area of the underside the front historic table gutter. This gutter is a bit different than a typical modern K-style gutter or troth gutter.
